What is Arabic Language?

  • Arabic is a Semitic language believed to be over 2000 years old. That's why it has a lot of time to improve, develop, make advancements in its meaning and improve its linguistics.
  • It has till now maintained to its roots meaning to its pure form. Unlike the other languages where words change meaning every few generations .
  • An example in the English language today is the word 'WICKED' which meant 'EVIL' last generation, but now according to oxford dictionary it also means Excellent, Wonderful and is possibly making future readers of the language confused.

How is Arabic Structured?

  • Now this thing is very uncommon to the readers but this fact is really captivating which is Arabic works with a trilateral root system, which means that most words are made up of 3 root consonant letters and other 1 and 2 letter words with different meanings surrounding that word. It is often for the reader to use his knowledge of the language to separate and differentiate between the letters to understand which letters means what.
  • I will try to explain it to you further with example.
Arabic Language Don't Use Unnecessary Words

  • Arabic is extremely concise language i.e, a sentence of 7 to 8 words in English can be just said in 7 to 8 letters of Arabic.
  • Example :
English - 'Both are at war with each other'

          Arabic - Yu-Haarib-oon
  • As vowels are not included as letters in Arabic language since they can be exclude or neglected and the word will be still readable.
  • As you can see how concise Arabic is.

How Does Arabic Language Works?

  • As I talked about the three root consonant lettered words are usually descriptions. These descriptions will then fit into the contexts for objects.
  •  For example :
The word "Sayyarah" means 'Car'.But in reality, It comes from the root meaning of the three                root letters  : (Siin - Yaa - Ra)
           meaning : Travelling through movement.
  • That's why we can see some of the other words in Arabic like
He went for a walk-( Saara) in arabic
A walk through a journey - ( Siiyrah) in arabic
  • As we can see in the above sentences how Arabic uses the root letters having similar meanings, because their root letter are being same.
  • This process makes it extremely uncomplicated to understand what a word means in Arabic.
  • Now sometimes you  might see a long difficult word, but you break it down to look at its root 3 letters and you will find its meaning.
  • This allows you to visualize the picture being portrayed through the Arabic.
  • This root letters system is also can be found partially in some of the other languages around the world. But Arabic maintains its rule throughout its entire language consistently, which makes its richness even more exciting to explore.
Arabic Has One Of The Richest Set Of Vocabularies

  • The exciting part is that the Arabic language has one of the richest sets of vocabularies in the world, Probably more than any other language.
  • For example:
The Arabs have over 1000 words just for describing camel and over 60 words for love!
  • The fascinating part is that every word has its own shade of meaning, So maybe two words could be similar but they both have slightly different implication in meaning.

Conclusion

  • The Arabic language is based on a trilateral root system.
  • The Arabic language is pure to its roots, and words can be traced back to their origin from over 1,400 years ago through lexicons.
